Sliding door passes Secured by Design

Date: 22/05/2012

NorDan's NTech1.2 Sliding Patio doors have completed rigorous testing at the British Board of Agrément (BBA) to pass both PAS 23 & PAS 24 and acquire Secured by Design status. This will be good news to those public sector contractors looking for a complete package from NorDan when it comes to high quality high performance timber and alu clad timber doors and windows.

Jon Cole, National Operations Manager for ACPO Secured by Design says: “We cannot ignore the impact that crime and the fear of crime have on the lives of individuals and their wider communities. We also shouldn’t underestimate the role that good product design has to play in both reducing crime and giving people peace of mind. I am delighted that NorDan, one of the UK’s leading Scandinavian window manufacturers, has developed a timber sliding door which meets the requirements of our Secured by Design initiative. Secured by Design member companies, such as NorDan, contribute to the substantial reduction in burglary in new developments of up to 75% and in major refurbishment schemes of up to 63%. These substantial reductions go hand in hand with the corresponding reductions in maintenance and carbon emissions caused directly as a result of criminal behaviour. We are extremely pleased that NorDan has chosen to further enhance their range of secure doors and windows with a new timber sliding doorset.

This is the first timber - or aluminium clad timber - Sliding door to achieve SBD status. NorDan is also the first Scandinavian manufacturer of sliding doors to achieve SBD status.

"Many manufacturers typically do not test their doors beyond 300Pa (50mph windspeed) for water-tightness. And ours achieved water-tightness of 1350 Pa. (100mph windspeed)" says NorDan technical manager John McMenamy. "Class 4 air permeability is also very impressive. It means the air leakage on our sliding doors would be suitable for Passivhaus standard buildings. At 50Pa, the pressure at which new buildings are tested, the leakage rate through the patio door is negligible."

This is the NorDan NTech 1.2 double glazed sliding door with one fixed pane. All NorDan products are put through intensive testing on rigs in Norway, to prove they meet Norwegian Building Standards which way exceed the demands made on products in the UK. This SBD sliding door has a whole product U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, and can be delivered factory finished painted or varnished, including options on a new white varnish finish, which is increasingly popular in the European markets of Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries and is new for the UK market.

The typical sliding doorset comprises an opening leaf and a fixed leaf of equal size with a meeting stile centrally positioned. Improved energy saving glazing unit contains Super Low E glass, Argon filled cavity and safety glass, with warm edge technology in the spacer bars. Available with optional aluminium cladding.
