  Automatic opening vents (AOV)

An automatically opening ventilator (AOV) provides an efficient means of ventilating smoke from communal areas so people have more time to effect their escape. NorDan supply a range of AOVs which are compatible with the design of other NorDan windows. Steel bracing is incorporated in the sash to counteract the forces involved in the operation of the automatic operating gear.

The NorDan AOV still retains its weather resistant performance. A sample tested under BS6375: Part1: 1989, measuring 1200mm width x 1800mm height, achieved 'severest exposure' rating (Part C).

Safety
As the NorDan AOV opens inwards, care must be taken not to obstruct fire escape routes when the window is activated.

Maintenance
The AOV can be connected to the smoke alarm system using a manual over-ride switch to enable the window to be opened for cleaning.

Lower running costs
NorDan's timber framed AOV has superior insulating properties to all metal types and contributes considerably to cutting down heat loss.

Aesthetics
The NorDan AOV has the advantage of being a highly efficient smoke dispersal unit, whilst the external appearance of a window, thus offering continuity of design to an architect.
